Some information about you and the care you receive is shared electronically, in a secure system, by healthcare staff to support your treatment and care.
Emergency Care Summary (ECS)
The basic level of this is called the "Emergency care summary"
This is just your demographics (address, DoB etc), your medication list and any allergies you have. See the link below for more information:
You do have a choice in this but by default this level of information is sent. If you are happy for your information to be used in this way you do not have to do anything. If you have any concerns or wish to prevent this from happening, please speak to practice staff and this can easily be turned off.
Electronic Key Information Summary (eKIS)
The next level of information sharing is the "Electronic key information summary" this is decided with your doctor and your consent needs to be granted before any data except that contained in the ECS is sent out of the practice. In general this will be used for patients with more complex or severe medical conditions to enhance any care they need to receive out with normal surgery hours. See link below for more details:
